Scan tool

The scan tool is a working area of its own for scan batches: you capture pages from a scanner or from files, prepare them, and then use them further — as a new redaction case, as a file, or by sending them to a Docuflair server. It replaces the former Docuflair ScanConnector; a batch left behind there is taken over on first start.

You open the tool through Scan tool in the ribbon or the menu.

  • Quick scan scans with the quick settings paper size, sides (single- or double-sided), colour mode and source (flatbed or automatic document feeder, for example).
  • Advanced opens the scanner driver’s dialog instead (Windows) or the application’s scan dialog (macOS).
  • Import takes pages from PDF and image files.
  • New pages are placed either at the beginning, after the current page or after the last page of the batch.

After a feeder batch the application asks “Scan more pages?” as usual.

The pages appear as tiles in the preview (size controlled by Tile size). There you reorder them by dragging and select them for the commands below:

Area Commands
Select A click selects a tile; Ctrl + click adds or removes a tile; Shift + click selects the range from the tile clicked last · Select all · Select none · Invert selection · Detect blank pages
Pages Delete (also with Del) · Rotate left · Rotate right
Adjust Increase or decrease brightness, contrast and gamma
Clean up Deskew · Remove lines · Remove punch holes · Remove specks · Remove staples · Crop black edges · Invert · Sharpen · Convert to greyscale or black and white

Every step can be taken back with Undo (Ctrl Z) and reapplied with Redo (Ctrl Y). The batch is saved continuously — even after a crash the pages are still there at the next start, with no need for you to save.

Action Result
Adopt as a case Creates a new case from the pages — with text recognition and subsequent redaction in the familiar flow. The batch is then emptied. If a case is already open, it is closed first (you are asked about unsaved changes). Adopt selection only uses just the selected pages.
Save as a file… Saves the batch as a PDF document or a multi-page TIFF.
Send to Docuflair Transfers the pages to a Docuflair server (see below). Send selection only sends just the selected pages.

Printing the batch is not currently provided for.

  1. Under Settings → Docuflair server, store the server address and check it with Test connection.
  2. In the scan tool, choose the category and the destination under Destination — an address book, a workflow, a legal case file, a storage location or a QR code, for instance. The selection is loaded from the server.
  3. Click Send to Docuflair and enter the subject when prompted.
  4. On the first send, the application signs in to the server with a user name and password. The status display then shows “Signed in as …”.

If no server is set up, the tool reports “No Docuflair server configured”.
