Installation and first start

The installation package brings everything it needs — the runtime, text recognition together with its language packs, and all detection data. Nothing is downloaded from the internet on the target machine; once licensed, the application runs entirely offline. The requirements for the machine are listed under system requirements, and the current setups are in the downloads section.

  1. Run DocuflairDesktopSetup-<version>.exe (about 280 MB) with administrator rights.
  2. Choose the language of the setup wizard (9 languages).
  3. Confirm the installation target — the default is C:\Program Files\Docuflair\desktop. Optionally create a desktop icon.
  4. The application appears in the Start menu group “Docuflair Desktop”.

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit is required.

Software distribution: the setup supports the usual unattended Inno Setup switches, for example:

Terminal-Fenster
DocuflairDesktopSetup-6.5.29.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART
  1. Choose the matching package: DocuflairDesktopSetup-<version>-arm64.pkg for Apple silicon or …-x64.pkg for Intel Macs.
  2. Work through the guided installer — the application is installed to /Applications/Docuflair Desktop.app.
  3. On first start, confirm the Gatekeeper prompt if it appears, by right-clicking and choosing Open.

macOS 12 (Monterey) or later is required, with around 900 MB of free disk space.

There is no sign-in — the application starts straight on the start screen. Without a valid licence, the licence dialog appears first.

Also on first start, sample documents are copied to the user’s Documents \ Docuflair Desktop \ Sample documents folder, so that every function can be tried out safely.

There is no automatic update: to update, simply run the newer setup.

  • Windows: the installer detects the existing installation, closes the running application and keeps the installation path and the settings. Installations made under the earlier product name keep their previous folder (Docuflair\redact or Docuflair\mask); the old Start menu entries “Docuflair Redact” and “Docuflair Mask” are removed.
  • macOS: the package removes an existing Docuflair Redact.app or Docuflair Mask.app, so that only Docuflair Desktop.app remains after the update.

Settings, the dictionary library and pseudonym mappings are preserved across an update.

  • Windows: through “Apps & features” or Control Panel. The setup asks whether the local data (dictionary library, settings, stored AI API keys) should be removed as well. In an unattended uninstallation the data is kept unless the /REMOVEDATA switch is given.
  • macOS: through the uninstallation script that ships with the app, /Applications/Docuflair Desktop.app/Contents/Resources/uninstall.sh — it likewise asks about the local data.
