System requirements

Docuflair Desktop runs on Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and macOS 12 or later. The installation package brings every component with it — the runtime, text recognition (OCR) with 18 language packs, detection data and an embedded browser for HTML and email files. Nothing has to be pre-installed on the target machine (no .NET, no Microsoft Office, no PDF driver).

Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 10 (64-bit), version 21H2 Windows 11, current feature update
Architecture x64 — 32-bit Windows and Windows on ARM are not supported x64
Processor 4 cores (Core i3 / Ryzen 3 from around 2020) 8 cores or more with high single-core performance (Core i7/i9, Ryzen 7/9 from around 2022)
Memory 8 GB 16 GB (32 GB for very large scan batches)
Disk 2 GB free SSD/NVMe, 5 GB free
Display 1366 × 768 1920 × 1080 or higher (scaling up to 200%)
Scanner (optional) TWAIN scanner with a 64-bit driver —
Installation Administrator rights for the setup —
Minimum Recommended
Operating system macOS 12 (Monterey) current macOS
Architecture Apple silicon (arm64) or Intel (x64) — separate native packages, no emulation Apple silicon (M series)
Processor Intel Mac from around 2018 (4 cores) Apple M1 Pro or later
Memory 8 GB 16 GB
Disk 2 GB free 5 GB free
Display — Retina is supported natively
Scanner (optional) Any scanner supported by macOS (USB or network) —

On first start a Gatekeeper prompt may appear (the package is not notarised): confirm the app once in the Applications folder by right-clicking and choosing Open. For scanning over network devices, macOS asks once for permission to search the local network.

Item Size (approx.)
Installation package (download) 280 MB
Installed application 900 MB — of which 430 MB browser, 85 MB OCR languages, 22 MB detection data
User data (settings, dictionaries, pseudonym mappings) a few MB, grows with use
Case files (.dfr) a few MB; for scanned cases the image data is held in the file (1–5 MB per page)

Network access occurs in three situations only:

  • once for licence activation (license.administrator.at, HTTPS/443),
  • optionally for the AI assistant (the API of the provider you choose),
  • optionally when sending from the scan tool to a Docuflair server.

All connections can be routed through a proxy. In isolated networks it is enough to permit activation once; without an API key configured, the AI assistant stays inactive.

  • One instance per machine — across all sessions. On terminal servers the desktop application is therefore not suitable for multi-user operation; the server solution Docuflair Redact & Mask covers that case.
  • Choose OCR languages sparingly: each additional language slows recognition down and can reduce accuracy (Settings → Text recognition; the default is the interface language plus English). As a rule of thumb on recommended hardware: a few seconds per page.
  • No graphics card needed — text recognition uses the CPU exclusively. During recognition several 300 dpi page images are held in memory at the same time (around 35 MB per A4 page and thread).
  • Where to store files: .dfr files work on network drives but are slower. On notebooks, run large batches on mains power — in power-saving mode the operating system throttles the CPU.
  • Endpoint protection: with very restrictive policies, add an exception for the program folder; parallel rasterisation briefly generates a lot of file and memory activity.
