Registering a device

Before Docuflair can control a printer or scanner, you first have to make the device known to the system — a process called registration. In the course of it you store the connection details (the IP address, the model, the credentials) so that Docuflair can communicate with the device.

You reach the device registration through the menu navigation under Devices > Register, on the Devices tab, and then through the Register device button. Depending on the Docuflair licence acquired and the type of device in use, different configuration options may be available.

Permission required

To access this function you need the following permission:

  • Create device (AdminUI_DeviceManagement_CreateDevice)

You grant permissions through groups — see permissions – overview.

Docuflair can run on multifunction printers from the following manufacturers:

  • CopyStar (HyPAS-capable)
  • Epson (EOP-capable)
  • KDJ (HyPAS-capable)
  • Kyocera (HyPAS-capable) - registering these printers only succeeds where an SD memory card is inserted in the printer.
  • Sharp (OSA-capable)
  • Olivetti (HyPAS-capable)
  • TA (HyPAS-capable)
  • UTAX (HyPAS-capable)
  • Xerox (EIP-capable)

Before the Docuflair application appears on a multifunction printer, you have to establish a connection between the Docuflair server and the device. Establishing that connection is referred to as registration and is comparable to installing an app on a smartphone.

The following document scanners (with a display) are supported as well:

  • Canon ScanFront 400
  • Kodak Alaris Scan Station 730 EX Plus

Xerox EIP can only be configured where the Custom Services are installed on the MFP. To establish whether Custom Services are installed on a Xerox 75xx device, carry out these steps:

Through the web interface

  1. Open a web browser and enter the URL http://%MFP IP address% in the address bar.
  2. Choose the Properties tab and sign in with your administrator user ID and your password when prompted to.
  3. In the left-hand pane, choose the General Setup folder and then Extensible Service Setup.
  4. Click the Edit button next to the Extensible Service Registration option.
  5. Click Enable All and then Save. The Custom Services button should now be available on the MFP.

Where you cannot reach these options or cannot find them, contact Xerox about installing the custom services correctly.

At the multifunction printer console

  1. Sign in with your administrator user ID and your password in the Tools menu.
  2. Touch All Services. Make sure the Custom Services button is visible. If it is not, switch the MFP off and on again and wait until the MFP is ready.
  3. Enter the user name and the password.
  4. On the Machine Status screen, touch the Tools tab.
  5. Touch Accounting Settings > Accounting Mode.
  6. On the Accounting Mode screen, touch the Network Accounting tab and then the Customise Prompts option.
  7. On the Customise User Prompts screen, touch Display Prompt 1 and 2 and then Save. Where that option is not set, transactions are recorded under “Unidentified user”.
  8. Set the code entry validation to “Disabled”.
  9. Touch the Save button again to save every change, and then sign out of the MFP console.

That completes the configuration at the device. You finish the rest of the configuration through the web interface.

For Docuflair to be used on an Epson printer, the device has to support EOP (Epson Open Platform). In the administration you enter a product key that unlocks the EOP functionality.

For Docuflair to be used on a Kyocera printer, the device has to support HyPAS. In the course of the registration, a Docuflair application is installed directly on the printer. A permanent connection between the Kyocera printer and the Docuflair server is required for ongoing operation.
