Docuflair Print Agent

The Docuflair Print Agent is a small program for Windows, Linux and macOS. It provides a virtual printer on the workstation (default name FollowYou) and transfers print jobs to the Docuflair server encrypted over HTTPS. This makes pull print (follow-me printing) available on devices without a Windows domain as well — for example on notebooks managed through Microsoft Intune or Entra ID.

Classic pull print in Docuflair uses shared Windows print queues (SMB/LPR) and therefore requires the machine to be a member of the Windows domain. On modern managed devices (Intune/Entra ID, home office, macOS and Linux workstations) that route is not available. The Print Agent restores “File → Print” there: the print job is accepted locally and handed to the Docuflair server over an outbound-only HTTPS connection — with no VPN, no domain join and no inbound firewall rules.

  1. You print from any application to the virtual printer FollowYou.
  2. The Print Agent accepts the print stream locally (reachable only on your own machine) and detects the format (PDF, PostScript, PCL).
  3. The job is uploaded to the Docuflair server over HTTPS; its status is visible at any time in the status bar app.
  4. At the multifunction printer you sign in as usual and release the job — just like any other pull print job.

The final status in the status bar app deliberately reads Uploaded, not “Printed”: printing happens only once you release the job at the device.

Component Role
Background service Runs as a Windows service, a systemd service or a launchd daemon; accepts print jobs and uploads them — even with no user signed in.
Status bar app (tray) Runs in the user session; handles signing in, shows job status and accepts files by drag & drop.

Besides printing through the driver, you can also transfer files unchanged — by right-clicking Send to Docuflair, through the “Send to” menu, or by drag & drop into the status window. For details see printing with the Print Agent.

  • Pull print through a Windows print server — the classic route for domain-joined machines; the Print Agent complements it for every other device.
  • Mobile print — printing by email from a smartphone; the Print Agent, by contrast, targets workstations using “File → Print”.
