Signing in and the server connection

The Print Agent uploads print jobs on your behalf — which is why you sign in once in the status bar app. If there is no sign-in yet, the app opens its window automatically at start-up.

In the sign-in window you enter the address of your Docuflair server (with https://, https://print.example.com for example). If your IT department has already preset the address, the field is filled in. The address is passed to the background service automatically — no separate configuration is needed.

Which methods are available is determined by the server (see the rollout for administrators):

  • Microsoft account (Entra ID): the app opens your default browser for the Microsoft sign-in. On devices joined to Entra ID, a single click is usually enough — the password and the second factor come from Microsoft, and Docuflair never sees your password.
  • User name and password: your Docuflair credentials, the same ones you use in the web interface.

Once you have signed in successfully, the device connects to the server and appears there in device management. The sign-in persists and is renewed automatically in the background — you do not have to sign in again, even after restarting the machine.

The access tokens are stored in the operating system’s credential store — through DPAPI on Windows, in the keychain on macOS, and in the Secret Service on Linux (GNOME Keyring/KWallet). Your password itself is not stored. For details see security and data protection.

You can sign out at any time through the status bar app’s menu. The local tokens are deleted in the process; jobs not yet uploaded stay in the queue and are transferred once you sign in again.

Administrators can block a device on the server — after a notebook has been lost, for instance. Jobs then receive the status Device blocked and are no longer uploaded; signing in again is only possible once an administrator has unblocked the device.
