Docuflair Scan

Docuflair Scan is an app for capturing and sharing photos and documents quickly. In the app you preconfigure various scan destinations, among them:

  • Sending through Gmail
  • Sending through an SMTP server
  • HTTP upload
  • Transfer to Windows shares
  • Sharing with other apps

Overview of the Docuflair Scan app

The Docuflair app is particularly suited to documentation purposes, where (recurring) captures are submitted to predefined target systems. The transfer happens in the background — if you wish, only once a Wi-Fi connection is available. Optionally you enter a subject for the images transferred; that can also be filled in automatically by photographing a QR code or a barcode.

You can limit the number of images to be submitted and the size of the image data, in order to reduce the data volume needed for the transfer.

Docuflair supports two different capture methods:

  • Photos
    Takes photos of objects or people that need no further processing before submission.
  • Document scan
    Detects page edges and borders, crops the relevant content and corrects the perspective on the smartphone itself. You can adjust the edges detected, and rotating the captured pages is possible too.

The Docuflair app is available in several editions with different feature sets.

  • Free
    Ad-funded: while using the app, advertising images and/or videos appear occasionally.
  • Pro
    No advertising and no other restrictions.
  • Enterprise
    Like the Pro edition, plus central management of the scan destinations by an organisation and a connection to Docuflair workflows for processing incoming photos and documents automatically. That turns every smartphone into a mobile scanner that captures images quickly and easily, inside and outside the organisation. The full feature set of Docuflair Flow is available for processing the documents, including conversion, redaction, and text and barcode recognition.

After installing the Free edition you can try the Pro features free of charge once, for 7 days.

For the best possible data protection and confidentiality, photos taken are not saved in the photo gallery of Google, Apple or the smartphone manufacturer but only in the app itself. If an in-house SMTP server or a Windows share is used as the scan destination, for example, the images submitted stay in a trusted environment throughout.

The captures remain stored on the smartphone for a configurable period and can be shared again if needed.

Optionally you can supplement the transfer of photos and documents with metadata. Additional information such as the time and place of capture is then supplied in a JSON file.

An example of a meta-json file:

{
"createTimestampMillis": 1583318263917,
"isDocument": "false",
"groupName": "My Photo Group Name",
"groupSizeMb": 2.283477783203125,
"optionalText1": "Some fancy text",
"optionalText2": "",
"photoCount": 2,
"photoNames": [
"My Photo Group Name (1).jpg"
"My Photo Group Name (2).jpg"
],
"uploadTimestampMillis": 1583318319441
}

The HTTP upload destination performs a standard HTTP file upload to a URL configured in the settings. It is secured through HTTP basic authentication. The credentials are stored encrypted on the smartphone; only the app itself can access the key.

Alongside the photos, the following information is uploaded as HTML form submit data:

  • name - the name of the photo group
  • size - the size of all the photos uploaded, in megabytes
  • isDocument - true/false, indicating whether an image was captured as a photo or as a document
  • isTestUpload - true/false, indicating whether this is a test upload or not
  • photoCount - the number of photos uploaded
  • optionalText1 - optional text, single line
  • optionalText2 - optional text, possibly multi-line
  • createTimestampMillis - the time the photo was taken, in milliseconds since 1 January 1970
  • files - a standard HTTP file upload. An array of the photos uploaded

In the settings you choose between POST and PUT as the HTTP method.
